A small and attractive French engraved gilt brass striking and alarm wall clock, late 16th century
4-cm gilt engraved chapter ring with numbered I-XII and 13-24, engraved foliate scrolls above and griffins below on a hatched ground, sunburst alarm disc with fixed hour pointer, partly gilt weight driven strip frame movement with verge escapement and plain balance, countwheel hour striking and alarm on a bell with a pierced and engraved cover showing horses and foliate scrolls, surmounted by a turned finial, four similar finials on the corners of the moulded case, side panels with hinged doors, engraved with cherubs and foliage on a hatched ground, the corners with fluted columns, moulded plinth with lion's paw feet, fixed hoop for wall suspension, weights lacking
