A 19th century French silver-gilt chalice Alexis Renaud, Paris circa 1819-1838, 1st standard and Paris guarantee mark A tapering cylindrical bowl with flared rim, applied with wheatsheaves and chased medallions depicting scenes from the life of Christ, the triple-knopped stem with plantain leaf rims and chased with similar medallions amongst scrolling strapwork, the domed spreading foot chased with six panels, four depicting symbols of the Passion of Christ the other two of grape, reed and wheat swags, the rim with further medallions featuring winged cherubs, height 29.5cm , weight 16.5oz .
